About Airline and Travel Credit Cards

Having this type of credit card will allow you to earn rewards that you can redeem toward travel expenses, such as airfare, hotel stays and taxi cabs. Look for a credit card with no foreign transaction fee and if possible with no annual fee so you can save even more.

With a travel card you can earn miles, points, or cash back typically on your everyday purchases and redeem your rewards for travel expense such as airfare, hotel stays and taxi cabs. Some travel cards even offer bonus miles, points, or cash back for stays at certain hotels or if you fly a specific airline which helps in adding more reward points, miles, or cash back. Travel cards also may offer other perks. So if you travel frequently you may want to consider a travel card.

The type of travel card you can get depends on your lifestyle, your needs and what features are important to you. Of course the offers that are available to you are driven by your credit score and other factors that determine your creditworthiness. If you are fortunate enough to manage your credit responsibly (for example by paying your monthly payments on-time, staying well below your credit limit, etc.) and you are in the good or excellent credit score range you typically will have a larger selection of offers available to you. However you can find some credit cards for individuals within the fair or average credit range that may also offer perks and rewards, you just need to shop around.

The upside of having a travel card is if you travel often you can build up rewards that you can use for travel, or hotel stays the downside is if the credit card has an annual fee, some of which can be pretty hefty, the annual fee will cut into your rewards. Bottom line if you travel enough to offset any annual fee or if you value and use the perks to make the annual fee worthwhile then it may be worth it, that is a choice you need to make.
